ABOUT ME
I am half Greek, half kiwi with a lot of Scottish thrown in and after 15 years living in Glasgow in Scotland, I am now based back where I was born, in New Zealand, with my husband and our three children, who are growing up far faster than I want to admit.
History was (and still is) my passion but I could never quite translate my history degree into making a living so, like many humanities graduates, I have had many different jobs over the years (including working for a Princess for 6 years but that is a tale for another time!) but when, after my kids had all started school, I accidentally stumbled into the role of a secondary school librarian I realised I had found my place at last. I love reading (for obvious reasons particularly historical and non-fiction books). I love talking about books and I love working with young people, connecting them with a book I know they are going to love.
It really is my dream job and I can't imagine doing anything else.
I have since gone on to earn my Master of Information Studies (library specialisation obviously!) and have my professional registration with LIANZA (Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) and am a member of SLANZA (School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa).
As well as working full time in my school library, since 2021 I have been a book critic/reviewer on Radio New Zealand's 'Afternoons with Jesse' show.
This blog acts purely as a supplement to my monthly radio chats with Jesse, where I can provide a bit more detail than we usually have time for on air. This is not a commercial site and I don't make any money from it.
